PATENT PROSECUTION – SOFTWARE / ELECTRONICS & SOFTWARE | MID-LEVEL TEAM ATTORNEY- NON-SHAREHOLDER TRACK (3+ YRS): Our client, an AmLaw 100 firm, is seeking a USPTO-registered Patent Prosecution Team Attorney to join its Electronics & Software Team, with a focus on preparing and prosecuting software-related patent applications. This non-partnership-track role offers a lower billable-hour expectation while providing access to sophisticated portfolio work and client counseling for cutting-edge technologies, including cloud computing, security and encryption, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, mobile applications, databases, and networking. The Team Attorney will support patent portfolio development, assist with strategy across U.S. and international filings, and collaborate closely with partners and clients in a highly integrated, technology-driven practice. While the position is ideally based in Denver or San Francisco, the firm will also consider strong candidates for Atlanta, Menlo Park, Raleigh, Seattle, Walnut Creek, or Washington, D.C.
The Team Attorney will be responsible for drafting and prosecuting patent applications, responding to office actions, analyzing invention disclosures, and identifying protectable subject matter across complex software and electronics innovations. The role requires close coordination with in-house counsel, engineers, and inventors, as well as the ability to manage a steady docket, prioritize competing deadlines, and deliver clear, well-reasoned work product. Candidates should be detail-oriented, comfortable working independently within a team-based environment, and able to communicate technical and legal concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
REQUIRED: A USPTO registration number and a degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field; at least 3 years of experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications, preferably involving software-related or high-technology subject matter; strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills; the ability to manage a prosecution docket with minimal supervision while working collaboratively with partners, clients, and colleagues; and admission in good standing to the bar of at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Prior experience with technologies such as cloud, security encryption, AI, bioinformatics, mobile applications, databases, and networking, as well as demonstrated aptitude for portfolio development and client counseling, is strongly preferred.
