Description
CORPORATE AVIATION – OF COUNSEL (10+ YRS): Our client, a national firm, is seeking an experienced Corporate Aviation Of Counsel to join its Business and Transactions Department. This role focuses on sophisticated, high-touch corporate aviation transactions and is open to any Ballard Spahr U.S. office. The attorney will advise a broad aviation client base, including U.S. and foreign airlines, businesses that own or lease aircraft, high-net-worth individuals, leasing companies, financial institutions, and aviation manufacturers and suppliers. The work will center on aircraft acquisitions, sales, leases, and financings, as well as structuring and negotiating complex aviation-related agreements in a business-critical, time-sensitive environment.
The Corporate Aviation Of Counsel will provide guidance on the selection, financing, and purchase of commercial and business or personal aircraft; navigate federal, state, and local tax considerations; and counsel clients on operational structure and FAA regulatory issues. Matters will include aircraft completion and customization, maintenance, operational and regulatory issues, and cross-border elements, with the opportunity to act as principal counsel on transactions involving aircraft ranging from small general-aviation planes to Boeing 747-800 and 787 VIP aircraft. The role requires the ability to manage transactions independently, maintain strong client relationships, and collaborate with colleagues across offices and practice groups in a collegial, team-oriented environment.
REQUIRED: A Juris Doctor degree and an active GA bar license; at least 10 years of experience handling sophisticated, corporate aviation transactions; a demonstrated track record independently managing aircraft transactions and advising aviation clients on acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, financing, tax and regulatory issues; excellent drafting, negotiation, and client-management skills; and the judgment, responsiveness, and business acumen necessary to support high-value aviation matters. A portable book of business and the ability to help expand the firm’s aviation client base are strong pluses.
