PATENT PROSECUTION – SOFTWARE / ELECTRONICS & SOFTWARE | PATENT AGENT: Our client, an AmLaw 100 firm, is seeking a USPTO-registered Patent Agent to join its Electronics & Software Team, focusing on preparing and prosecuting software-related patent applications for cutting-edge technologies. This role provides the opportunity to support sophisticated patent portfolios, work directly with inventors and in-house counsel, and contribute to strategic counseling across U.S. and international filings involving technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, encryption and cybersecurity, mobile applications, bioinformatics, networking, and complex data systems. The position is preferred in Atlanta; however, candidates will also be considered for Denver, Menlo Park, Raleigh, San Francisco, Seattle, or Washington, D.C.
The Patent Agent will draft and prosecute patent applications, evaluate invention disclosures, identify patentable subject matter, prepare responses to Office Actions, and assist in portfolio development strategy. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, capable of managing a steady prosecution docket, comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, and able to communicate complex technical and legal concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
REQUIRED: A USPTO registration number; a degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related discipline; and at least three years of patent prosecution experience, preferably involving software-related subject matter. Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical ability, excellent legal writing and communication skills, proven experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications, and the ability to manage deadlines and priorities while supporting a team-based environment. Prior exposure to or work involving AI, cloud systems, encryption, networking, mobile platforms, databases, or bioinformatics and experience assisting with portfolio strategy or client counseling are preferred.
