Industry Insights

Raj Nichani, founder of The RMN Agency, shared insights on how attorneys time lateral moves around year-end bonuses and how larger group moves influence the market.

“This was by far the best year we’ve had on record,”

Nichani noted that attorneys often consider a firm’s platform and capabilities—such as international reach or specialized practice areas—when making lateral moves. He also observed that larger group moves contributed to the market’s activity.

“A lot of ones and twos [placements] added up,” Nichani said.

He added that many attorneys wait until after receiving year-end bonuses to make moves, with several transitions already underway.

“A lot of deals inked in the fourth quarter are completed in the following year’s first quarter.”
