RMN Global Search is proud to announce that we will be hosting a fundraiser for Judge Carla Wong McMillian on December 3rd, 2013 at TAP Gastropub at 6:00 pm.
Before her appointment to the bench, Judge McMillian earned her law degree at University of Georgia and began her legal career as a federal law clerk for the Honorable William C. O’Kelley of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. She then moved on to be a partner in the litigation department of Sutherland Asbill & Brennan, LLP.
McMillian is the first Asian-American judge on the appellate bench in the Southeast. Prior to joining the Court of Appeals, McMillian served as the State Court Judge for Fayette County. In 2012, Fayette County voters overwhelmingly elected her to a full term, and making her the first minority woman elected countywide to any office in the Fayette County history.
On January 24, 2013, Governor Nathan Deal chose Judge Carla Wong McMillian to be appointed as the newest judge on the state Court of Appeals. In addition to her appointment as a judge, McMillian is also a member of the Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Fayette County Historical Society, Partnership Against Domestic Violence, the Real Life Center, and the Atlanta Chapter of the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies. She is a well-rounded person who has always been a part of groups and communities that help to better society.
